Coaching changes, roster turnover and conference realignment significantly impact the 2024 outlook for numerous college football programs. Undergoing a period of transition always sparks uncertainty, though some schools have much to be excited about as they enter new eras. Texas A&M, for one, appears to have a brighter future after tabbing Mike Elko as its new head coach, and the Aggies are not alone.Countless factors determine teams’ projected win totals, and ultimately, their success in the fall. Strength of schedule, roster makeup and coaching acumen all weigh heavily into the equation. For a decent chunk of schools, like Wisconsin and Syracuse, some of those factors offset others and paint a murky picture of how the ensuing campaign will unfold. We have identified the four teams that enter the 2024 season as college football’s biggest mysteries. These squads have wide gaps between their floors and ceilings ahead of the upcoming campaign, making it particularly difficult to project their success.Landry Football Podcast Network brings you a Coaching & Scouting perspective on College Football, NFL, Recruiting, NFL Draft, Coaching Searches and much more. Super Bowl LVIII is in the books and the NFL focus shifts to the 2024 league year, beginning with free agency opening on March 11.The upcoming free agent class is heavier on defensive talent, as the following list demonstrates. Here’s my Sweet 16 list of players in the best position to fetch mega-contracts. Many will be hit with the franchise tag at eight-figure sums on the one-year tender. They’ll still hope to sign long-term deals with substantial guarantees rather than be stuck signing their one-year tenders. Here’s what some of those deals could look like.Landry Football Podcast Network brings you a Coaching & Scouting perspective on College Football, NFL, Recruiting, NFL Draft, Coaching Searches and much more. The last offseason before major conference realignment in college football was predictably busy for the coaching carousel. Barring another late departure, there are 30 new head coaches in the FBS, the most since 2012. The carousel appears to have finally slowed so we can all catch our breath, examine the landscape and grade each hire.In 2012, 31 head coaches were hired across the FBS. Is there a correlation? Perhaps. The spring of 2013 was approaching another inflection point for the sport as administrators prepared for an expanded four-team College Football Playoff in 2014.This fall could be jolting for fans. Not only will the conference landscape be different with new teams peppered across the Power 4, but divisions have also been erased in the SEC and Big Ten. The impetus for the moves is the College Football Playoff, which expands to 12 teams — administrators are still trying to settle on the format following the departures of 10 Pac-12 teams for new homes. The SEC and Big Ten are the big boys on the block with those conferences adding six combined teams (Texas and Oklahoma in the SEC; Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington in the Big Ten). Washington State and Oregon State are homeless with only the Pac-12 brand — and a Mountain West schedule — to comfort them at night. Meanwhile, the NCAA is fighting multiple lawsuits that may lead to schools paying players directly within the next decade. The changes to the sport have been swift, and coaches are coming and going at a near-record pace. The Coaching Carousel has tracked every move throughout the offseason, and will continue to do so as assistants move from team to team. With movement atop programs seemingly finished with UCLA hiring DeShaun Foster on Feb. 12, let’s take a look at each hire and examine within the context and challenges inherent and unique to those teams, whether these 30 coaches fit in their new homes.Landry Football Podcast Network brings you a Coaching & Scouting perspective on College Football, NFL, Recruiting, NFL Draft, Coaching Searches and much more. All players selected in the first round sign four-year contracts with a team option for a fifth season. After the player finishes his third year in the league, teams must decide whether to exercise that option. There are some obvious, no-brainers from the 2021 NFL Draft, like Ja’Marr Chase and Micah Parsons, but there are more complicated choices. Some players whose decisions will come down to the final week. The deadline to make a decision is Thursday, May 2.Keep in mind that the fifth-year option is fully guaranteed once exercised (previously, it was only guaranteed for injury).Let’s take a look at some of the tougher decisions to make.Landry Football Podcast Network brings you a Coaching & Scouting perspective on College Football, NFL, Recruiting, NFL Draft, Coaching Searches and much more. From the Senior Bowl to the Hula Bowl, college football’s all-star games are in the books. Super Bowl LVIII’s completion ended the 2023-24 NFL season, and now all eyes turn to the draft April 25-27 in Detroit. Dialing in the pre-draft process a bit more, I’m going through college football’s four power conferences — the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC — with a look at each league’s top 024 prospects.Starting with the SEC, which has largely led the way in NFL Draft production over the years, there are first-round studs and Day 2 value picks throughout the 16 programs (which now includes Oklahoma and Texas).Get real scouting reports from a veteran NFL Scout and Scouting Director of over 40 years in the NFL.Landry Football Podcast Network brings you a Coaching & Scouting perspective on College Football, NFL, Recruiting, NFL Draft, Coaching Searches and much more. Chip Kelly is leaving UCLA, but not the Big Ten, as he’s expected to make the move to Ohio State to become the Buckeyes offensive coordinator. He’ll go work for his protege, Ryan Day, as OSU works to try to reclaim the Big Ten.Kelly leaves Westwood after going 35-34 in six seasons. It was a rough start for the former Oregon coach who won big with the Ducks but struggled getting UCLA turned around. He did lead the Bruins to a 9-4 record and finished the season ranked No. 21 in 2022, and they won eight games last season and whipped archrival USC, but things had become an uphill battle for him and the program on the recruiting front in the name, image and likeness era.It had become a pretty bad marriage.Chip Kelly led UCLA to one of the program’s most successful runs in recent memory. So why is Kelly leaving? Here’s a dive into the many issues facing Kelly and UCLA athletics.Landry Football Podcast Network brings you a Coaching & Scouting perspective on College Football, NFL, Recruiting, NFL Draft, Coaching Searches and much more. National Signing Day on Wednesday put a bow on the class of 2024 and provided a clearer image of which ten teams are College Football Playoff contenders next fall. Georgia and Alabama signed the top two classes in the nation, respectively, but are trending in opposite directions after a mass exodus of talent followed Nick Saban’s departure from the Crimson Tide. Don’t give up on Kalen DeBoer’s crew just yet, though.Other contenders like Oregon, Ohio State, Texas and LSU bolstered already talented rosters with top-10 signing classes and found their way on this list. Miami, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Auburn also finished with top 10 classes but aren’t national championship contenders just yet, with questions still on the roster.Ole Miss signed the No. 21 high school recruiting class in the nation but transformed itself into a contender thanks to a transfer portal masterclass. The 17-man group features top-ranked defensive lineman Walter Nolen, three top-25 overall prospects and nine players with four-star ratings or higher. Here are the some teams that have advanced their playoff potential coming off Signing Day:Landry Football Podcast Network brings you a Coaching & Scouting perspective on College Football, NFL, Recruiting, NFL Draft, Coaching Searches and much more.
